Streamlining portfolio management for strategic traders
LYNX, an online broker company, aimed to improve its customer experience by adopting a more customer-centric approach. To achieve this, we developed and implemented the 'Strategic Sub-accounts' feature to meet the needs of the 'Strategic Trader' segment, allowing traders to organize and manage various strategies within a single LYNX account. This project also served as a platform to engage and train key LYNX personnel to work in a more customer-centered, product-oriented, and insights-based manner, fostering cross-branch collaboration and promoting innovation. With the 'Strategic Sub-accounts' feature, LYNX further positioned itself as a broker that caters to advanced traders, offering users the flexibility and control they need to optimize their investment strategies.

Challenge: Consolidating strategies
Challenge: Consolidating strategies
Strategic traders often manage multiple investment strategies, leading them to use different brokers and accounts to keep them organized. This fragmented approach complicates their investment experience and makes portfolio management more cumbersome. LYNX needed a solution that would enable these traders to manage various strategies within a single LYNX account.
Approach: Defining the subaccounts concept
Approach: Defining the subaccounts concept
Our approach involved defining what 'Strategic Sub-accounts' meant for LYNX and its users. We engaged with stakeholders to identify technical constraints and collaborated with the Design System team to ensure consistency in interaction and design patterns. Initially, we learned that LYNX already had a way to create duplicate accounts, prompting us to consider how this existing technical implementation could be refined to meet the needs of strategic traders. Two concept directions emerged. In the first concept, each account would have its own Market, Portfolio, Watchlist, and Performance pages, allowing users to switch between these accounts at the highest level. The second concept focused on having multiple accounts within a single Portfolio page, providing an overview of the entire portfolio. Users could then navigate a level deeper to view specific account details. We validated these concepts with 8 strategic traders to understand which approach best suited their needs. The feedback showed a strong preference for the second concept. Users found it more intuitive and easier to manage, as it kept a main account with a single balance, allowing them to organize and control their investments with greater simplicity.
Outcome: Optimising for Strategic Traders
Outcome: Optimising for Strategic Traders
The final design for 'Strategic Sub-accounts' allowed traders to navigate between different strategy splits while also maintaining a main account to keep an overview with a single balance. We revised the information architecture to create a split-oriented navigation on the left side, allowing traders to switch between different strategy splits without sacrificing screen space. This solution provided a scalable approach, supporting future expansions while building upon existing development patterns. It also made technical and legal considerations easier, as it did not require opening multiple accounts, which could take up to two days.
